I admire his courage and his determination, he's like a new Martin Luther King, a new Gandhi, he wants peace in the world,he's not scared of telling the truth.

Do you think the same ?

WHAT IF THE DEMOCRAT CHOOSE HIM AS THE NEW CANDIDATE ? WHAT IF ERHAN WATADA IS OUR NEXT PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES ?

Yes. Regardless whether or not we agree with Iraq, I believe it is important for soldiers to refuse orders they feel are illegal. If we attempt to come down on Lt. Watada for doing so then we are fostering an army similar to what the Nazis had with all the soldiers committing horrific acts and later defending themselves with the famous saying: " I was just following orders!"

We need to allow soldiers to stand up against what is illegal or highly immoral.

I, of course, understand that we can not have an army that decides for themselves what wars they want to fight, however In this case Lt. Watada is correct and we should all applaud his professionalism in reminding all of us that we are a country of morals and values that will avoid the pitfalls that other countries fell into such as North Korea, Nazi Germany, and Italy under Mussolini.

We need to take a step back and see what the real issue is and not attack someone that we on the surface we believe has different opinions then us.

A little common sense and knowledge of history

Don't know enough about him to answer the question. I'll do some searching.

And after a search.... He is a coward and traitor to his country. I have no time and concern from someone who enlists, enjoys the benefits of his position and then balks when given a lawful order. If he was an objector to war, perhaps he should not have joined a military service. Wasn't one of the Democratic hits on Bush was that he dodged service? And now you want this man for President? How do people who think like this get through the day. As for those who think he's such an upstanding guy, remember he swore an oath to protect the U.S. What if all of us who serve decided we didn't want to protect San Francisco if it was attacked due to our dislike of the cities policies? Would you think of us in the same way?

I think you people need to rethink who this guy is. This is a guy that volunteered for military service. He took a commission for our military and swore an oath to serve, then turns around and says he doesn't want to because of morals. He claims he isn't a coward, but he is the worst kind of coward. I was in the Marines and right before we went to war, a bunch of cowards used every crack and nook and loophole they could find to get discharged. One guy even used shaving bumps as an excuse. This isn't far removed from that. He's the worst kind of hypocrite, since he only wants to serve his country when they aren't deployed. I hope they throw everything at him and throw him in jail for a few years to think it over.

We need to make an example out of him lest all our troops think it's ok to not follow orders and up and quit.

i'm a Scot and that i've got merely comprehensive observing it on Sci-Fi (BSkyB) final Monday. i might could say...it extremely is the superb tutor ON television!!!!!!!!!!!. i'm sooo disappointed the season's come to an end and what an end it replace into! it is going to be shown on terrestrial television for the 1st time in the united kingdom (BBC2) the following day evening and thereafter with a double episode with the 'in no way seen earlier' backstage pictures (in uk). i'm sooo gonna watch it lower back - ITS FAB!!! each tutor that leads to a cliffhanger? Works for me every time. My husband extremely loves it too and he's not particularly inspired with merely any television tutor!! the only unhappy situation is that we Brits could wait until eventually next three hundred and sixty 5 days for the 2d season - it is not honest!!! :-( :-( :-(

Yes, HE is at least standing up for what he believes in even if it means jail time. HE is at least trying to stop an illegal war which never should have been started in the first place. He is very different than Bush. HE was in Afghanistan and between that and learning more about Iraq upon returning to the US he learned that it was a war which was based on lies and deceit via Bush. It is an illegal war and he is bringing attention to that fact. If it isn't an illegal war, why don't you ask Rummy why he wont travel to Europe, especially Germany?

I don't particularly agree to him being the president but I do commend him for following his integrity!
He joined the military to go after Al Qaeda and Osama not Iraq!

Iraq did not attack our country!

He is definitely one of the people who could clearly see the writing on the wall!

It really WOULD be like the Democrats to embrace a traitor, wouldn't it?

Watada enlisted knowing full well the consequences and possibilities. Now he's whinging. I won't call him a coward, but he *is* a deserter that deserves prison time.

He is too young to be President, but we all must respect his decision to not serve in Iraq and volunteer for Afghanistan due to Iraq being an illegal war. He is a soldier and a hero.
