Rock compared to what? How is listening to rock an insult? Because everyone else listens to what, R&B Grind music that has no substance, just "ooh baby let me have sex with you"? hateful rap that fuels our race wars and glorifies gang culture and materialism over everything?

Let it slide; if you're not getting judged by your music, then you'd be judged by your hair, or your clothes, or your friends, or the fact that you do (or do not) (smoke, have sex, do drugs, get good grades, participate in activities... Why not take ownership of it -- "Hell yeah I'm emo-- at least my music has some emotion other than "oh baby".

Stop being so emo about it :)

This won't likely make you feel better in this moment, but kids seem to feel the need to find something to pick on others about whether it be their hair, glasses, weight, style of dress, etc. You must be a pretty nice and fairly cool person if the best they can come up with is the music you listen to. It's hard, I know, but ignore them or "embrace" what they are saying and don't let them see it bothers you. If they can't get a reaction out of you, they will move on.

If these people weren't criticising your choice of music, they would be bullying you for which side of town you came from, your choice of trainer or how you ate your lunch. They are immature, insecure, individuals who can only define themselves negatively in who or what they are against.

What you need to say to your oppressors is "if I valued your opinion I would be offended" and walk away. Hopefully by the time they've worked it out you will be half way home, or at least half way down the corridor.

Incidentally I hope your nothing like the guys in this clip, or you may have a real problem.

That used to happen to me a lot when I was young. I was part of a band, used to have long hair, wear black all the time, wear earrings, boots and have all this stuff dangling over my neck and from my wrists. People would judge me based on the music I listened to and how I dressed.

My suggestion would be to keep a live bat in your pocket. Then, every time someone disrespects you, pull the bat out of your pocket and proceed to bite it's head off like Ozzy would.

That's my way of saying ignore it.

Either that or puff, puff drag and laugh it off Rasta-style!

Dont let them bother you. Youre probably WAY cooler than them anyway and they know it, at least you are not a sheep following the boring non imaginative crap that is mainstream music. I had all that S*it at school too, just say ok, whatever. Be pround and rock out! At least you are not bored.(they obviously are and have nothing better to do) Stand out and shine! Good luck.

Don't give a damn about what they say! My mum likes Indie Rock and Roll! She is so cool! And Emo is a completely different thing from Rock and Roll. Just be yourself. Noone has the right to tell you what you're like - and you shouldn't change for them! You're individual! Don't change! It's not like they're perfect!

When I was in school I was judged, picked at, and teased for just about everything. All you can do is ignore them. People do this to each other out of jealousy or just drag others down in an attempt to make themselves feel better.
One thing to remember....never change who you are simply because someone says you aren't good enough or whatever.

You get crap like this from ignorant trendies who are actually jealous underneath as they haven't the nerve and confidence to look different or explore anything beyond the end of their noses.

Best to smile and just look superior, cos let's face it you are!

Just ignore them, if you're an Indie Princess, you're royalty, be regal!
