i was trying to play pikmin, i know that the first controller port doesn't work, but the game will not recognize a controller in the second. i was wondering how to get the first port to work or make the game think there is a controller in the first one, or make it so that you can only play with a controller in the second.

are you using a third party controller or a Nintendo one ? The port could be "burnt" to the third party controller. Sony had this problem with the PS1 and 2 with controllers and memory cards.
Exchange it for a used one and just say that it skips playing the newer games.

There really is no way to tell what the problem is. Controller type could be an issue. If the first slot is broken, I would highly suggest getting it fixed.
Oh, and Pikmin can only be played off the first controller slot ; )

just get it fixed it wont cost that much or nothing if you've got a guarantee
