We have recently moved at work and I am getting headaches and stess as I have a machine looking like a server close to me ( I was told it was not the server but I can't remember the name of it). To make it worse the air conditioning system is just as noisy and near enough above my head. I was told I will get use to it but I doubt you get use to headaches. Am I within my rights to ask for something to be done about this situation? Is it actually a health hazzard? Anyone with useful experience, opinion or websites?

This sounds very much like a work hazard, ask your safety rep to do a risk assessment on both machines and he cant refuse. For the headaches two paracetamol with a mug of cold water, the headaches could be dehydration due to the fact you are sitting right under the air conditioning. Hope this helps.

EXCEDRIN!!! (sp?.) when i have mild migraines (sensitivity to sounds as well)

if its not too bad just a mild migraine excedrin migraine is wonderful, and helps alot... depending on how your body reacts with caffiene, it can make you a little jumpy like a cup of coffee, but it makes you feel much better...

But if you feel that it is a big enough hazard, I would mention it to a manager who will not judge you as just being a baby... then contact a local attorney who knows the basic work and safety standards and laws and see what can legally be done...

First, have you made your boss aware of this situation?
Secondly, ask to move your desk further from the noise.
If this doesn't help, seek to find what your rights are, headaches should not be on the list of work duties.
Change it!!

well one thing is you can try earplugs.
you could ask your employer to provide noise-cancelling earphones to solve this problem. consider asking for a noise baffle between you and the noises. it might not be the noise, it could be something else in the new environment.
