Hi. I am a Physician. The surgery is pretty routine. The Appendix is part of the intestine.Appendicitis means inflammation of the appendix. It is thought that appendicitis begins when the opening from the appendix into the cecum becomes blocked. The blockage may be due to a build-up of thick mucus within the appendix or to stool that enters the appendix from the cecum. The mucus or stool hardens, becomes rock-like, and blocks the opening. The Hospital stay varies, usually overnight to 2 days. She will be in mild discomfort and be back to normal in a couple of weeks. Don't worry. Good luck.

i'm 22 my appendix burst when i was 18 i had emergency surgery for 3 hours they had to clean out 60ml of poison from my insides after that i had plenty of bedrest 2 weeks in hospital plus 3 months recovery at home had to have physiotherapy to walk properly again and had to be slowly introduced to food again

cause your friends going in for sugery her appendix hasn't burst there'll be some discomfort but she'll recover pretty quickly and she'll be given quite a lot of morphine and aspirin so she wont be aware of the pain

best wishes

Had mine out in '95, boy am I glad. Well worth it. Food particles get into that little organ that is connected to the intestines, and it swells and reacts in an allergic, or microbe-fighting sort of way.

I wish I had opted for that shot "to relax" the patient before going into the OR. I also wish they had put in the catheter before going in cause I woke up with my bladder feeling like it would pop.

They do it quicker, with lighter anesthesia these days. I was up and walking the next day.

Post-surgical pain ain't as bad as the inflammation can get.

Its not that bad any more. They will make a small incision in her belly button and she will be ok in a few days. Sure she will be in some pain but they will give her something for that. Keep calm and she will be ok. You are a good friend to worry about her like you are.
