is it ok to use my comp for 24 hours? just this once?

im using a desktop.. i misplaced it's cover.. oh well i think it's ok if i dont cover it to maximize airflow

You bet! If it's a laptop, make sure cooling is okay! I overheated mine, *my* mistake, not enough space underneath, endemic to most laptops, not enough spacer for puny fans. Lots of folks have high-speed connections, stay connected all the time, but have good firewall to protect against foreign invaders...

My desk top machine is seldom turned off. I routinely leave it on 24/7 and so far, no ill effects. Your machine should be just fine almost regardless how much you leave it on.

I was just thinking, it has been over a year since I have had it turned off for more than the few minutes it takes to cold boot it when I get the dreaded blue screen of Windows.

Hope that makes you feel better about abusing your computer.

It's okay to let it run indefinitely as long as it get good cooling.

BTW, don't fool yourself, the cooling is much more efficient with the cover on because it directs the air flow over the hot components, such as your cpu.
