Birthday gifts are easier when you know the person. it is complicated because it depends on each character:
1- an electronic geek person would like a new electronic device (toy)
2- a showoff person who like to have something that not everyone has (not necessarily expensive but unique)
How about a gift card at a mall where he can buy whatever he wants from there?

Gift cards are the best. you can get the visa ones so he can spend it anywhere. or Itunes even has the prepaid cards you can buy at walmart, so if he is online, he can buy songs too.
