I'd suggest buying the games used. They're a lot more affordable, and since games have memory cards, you don't have to worry about someone else unlocking everything. Renting is a waste of money because in all likelihood, you'll want to buy the game later, and you gained nothing from putting down that $5 per game.

I buy them new, but if I want save some money I buy used. Used ones are just as good and sometimes you can get a good price.

I buy my games off eBay or at EB Games. Sometimes you can get them from a pawn shop. You can get an on line service to rent games just like netflix, try blockbuster or gamefly.com

My son goes to a place called Game Stop and purchase used games. They are just as good as the new ones.
