When my snails lay their eggs, do I have to worry about my goldfish eating them?

The snails are laying the eggs out of the water so no, the goldfish probably will not eat them. You can lower the water level another few inches to be sure that the goldfish don't poke their noses out and manage to smell the eggs.

Its more than likely that your goldfish will eat them, if they can find them. But the snail will deposit the eggs somewhere hidden away to give them a chance. You need some sort of attrition though otherwise you'll get overrun by snails :)
