well it depends on your model of ps2 first if you have the older ps2 (the big one) you will need to buy an ethernet/network adapter to hook into the expansion slot on the back. If you have a slim ps2 it has a built in ethernet port so that part your set. you need a modem for your internet (dsl/cable) now if you want wired internet you could take out the internet from your modem and hook it into your ps2 or you could get a WIRED router and rout the internet to your ps2 via an ethernet cable. If you want wireless with your computer downstairs and your ps2 in your room you need a wireless router to wirelessly send an internet signal to your room then you need to get a wireless gaming adapter from lynksys they sell them at staples and those types of stores now you have your connection all you need to do is make one just put in the online game you want and it will ask you to setup a connection
(Its actually alot easier than it sounds)

all you need is a ps2 (if you have an older one, you'll need the network adapter as well, the new slim ones come with it built in), a broadband internet connection, and a cad5 wire (ethernet cord). Just plug the network adapter into your broadband router, and voila! you're on your way
