I've heard of the doctors keeping patients on there meds like this but just lowering the dosage, you deff. need to talk to your doctor though, try and do some internet research on it. Good luck and Congrats!!

I was also taking lexapro and went off of it last summer in anticipation of getting pregnant. Well, I was a basket case...total panic attacks etc. I went to see my OB who is GREAT and he said that he had delivered thousands of babies that had mothers on lexapro with no bad outcomes. He has done a lot of research and feels that it is safe to take during pregnancy. I really felt that in my case, it would be far better for me to feel a sense of well being and calm than not to take the medication. A basket case mother can not be good for a fetus. I take 5 mg a day and I don't worry at all, my pregnancy has been very healthy and my doctor is totally comfortable with his recommendation and so am I. Obviously you should check with your doc, but don't let anyone tell you what's right for your mental health...do what feels right for you and your baby. Best of luck!!!

Can I use Lexapro if I am pregnant?
If you become pregnant or intend to become pregnant while taking Lexapro, talk to your doctor. There have been no studies done to confirm that Lexapro is safe to use in pregnant women. Therefore, Lexapro should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the unborn child. Be sure to talk to your doctor about this important decision.

Lexapro is one of those medications that you have to be taken off slowly and not cold turkey. Its the same as when you started the meds, you slowing increased your dosage over time. This will be the case with the Lexapro. Believe me, you don't want to just quit altogether, the side effects are horrendous to your sytem. You will be taken off of them though because of the pregnancy, perhaps they will find a substitute that won't be damaging to your pregnancy. I would continue your medication until your doctor tells you differently. However, missing one dosage until you hear back won't hurt you. If you're going to be weened off of them anyways, one dosage won't hurt either way. Congradulations!

lexapro is considered a drug and as everyone knows drugs can harm the baby. The best thing for now is to stop taking your medication until you hear from your doctor. Usually when you are pregnant you are not allowed to take any medications unless told otherwise. So for the best of your baby, stop until told otherwise by a physician.

Lexapro is in Pregnancy category C, so whether you would still take it or not would depend on a risk benefit analysis by your physician. Unfortuantely, this drug is one of the ones where there's no clear cut answer on whether you should continue taking it, so just wait until your doctor calls you back. He/she may want to switch you to another medication.

Hello I am 24weeks pregnant and I am on Ciprimil. I take 40mg per day. I checked with my GP and psychiatrist and they said it's fine. I have suffered with really bad panic attacks and depression for about 8 years now and it is better for me to take my antidepressant than to be off it and stress the baby out. Make you take care of yourself during the pregnancy. I wish you all the best. :-)

lexapro is considered safe to take during pregnancy. do not stop taking it abruptly, you must slowly lower the dosage and wean yourself off of it, but i doubt that is what the doctor will do. Congrats on the little one. God bless
