It's not really the vitamin itself, it's the iron actaully. If your taking one that has more iron than others yes it can cause some constipation. But than, pregnancy also causes this itself, so the mix of the two, can have it appear more often than not.
Drink more water, and get yourself some more fiber, fruits are great to help out, if you can't always get fresh, try getting canned or frozen (frozen are an extra treat. THe raseberries and strawberries act both as something cold and sweet for the crave)
If you get canned though make sure it's not in heavy syrup, as much as I like the sweetness to some, it's just way too much added surag, drain it out whether in lite or heavy syrup, get it cold if you like of spoon it out as a snack. So keep up with water and fruits, that helped me more than anything else.
If that doesn't help your doc can recommend something more useful, just don't take any over the counter meds unless you spoke to your doc!!!
Good Luck!

Well I think the answer is Yes, due to the High Iron levels; but here is an article saying otherwise. I would consult your Dr. if you are having major problems with this. If not you can try Prune juice, Apple Juice. or this Yogurt called "Activa" it helps get you regular and Keep you regular.

Question: Is my prenatal vitamin causing my constipation?

Answer: Probably not. Constipation is a common problem during pregnancy. The main culprits are the higher level of progesterone your body is producing — which slows the movement of food through your digestive tract — and, later in pregnancy, the pressure of your growing uterus on your rectum. Taking an iron supplement, particularly at a high dose, can make things worse, but the amount of iron in most prenatal vitamins is not usually a problem.

Check the label on your prenatal vitamin. If you're not anemic, you probably don't need more than 30 milligrams of iron a day. If your prenatal vitamin has more than that, you might want to ask your doctor or midwife about switching to a formula with less iron.

To help ease your constipation, make sure you're getting a minimum of 64 ounces of fluid every day (eight glasses, preferably of water) and increase your consumption of high-fiber foods such as whole grains, beans, vegetables, and fruits with skins.

Exercise may also help get things going. And never put off going to the bathroom when you feel the urge to move your bowels. If these measures aren't enough, your practitioner may recommend that you take an over-the-counter fiber supplement.

Prenatal vitamins contain extra iron and the iron can absolutely cause constipation. If you are not iron deficient, you may try a low iron prenatal vitamin and see if that helps. Your doctor will do periodic iron checks to see if you should up your iron intake.

If you have to take the higher iron vitamins, try taking the vitamin with some fruit juice and adding a bit more fiber to your diet.

Prenatal vitamins contain alot of iron in them, and iron has been known to cause constipation. You should just make sure you are eating a well balanced diet with lots of fiber in it ( green leafy veggies).

Generally no. There are some that actually help with constipation. I have samples at home, but I'm sorry, I just can't remember the name. Anyway, from what I read to avoid constipation during pregnancy, you should eat extra fiber and drink plenty of water. I had gestational diabetes with my first pregnancy and controlled it with diet. Because I ate so healthy, I didn't have it.

Ask your doctor to prescribe prenatals that have a stool softener and/or time-released iron. (The iron is what makes you constipated) I had those when I was pregnant and they actually helped keep me regular and I had no constipation.
