The Roswell UFO incident involved the recovery of materials near Roswell, New Mexico, in July 1947, which have since become the subject of intense speculation and research. There are widely divergent views on what actually happened, and passionate debate about what evidence can be believed. The United States military maintains that what was recovered was a top-secret research balloon that had crashed. However, many UFO proponents believe the wreckage was of a crashed alien craft and that the military covered up the craft's recovery. The incident has evolved into a widely-recognized and referenced pop culture phenomenon, and for some, Roswell is synonymous with UFO and likely ranks as the most famous alleged UFO incident.

What I KNOW about it is that the Army was testing a newly-designed contraption intended to detect Soviet nuclear detonations at a great distance. They were so fearful of the details of that ultra-secret program becoming known to the Soviets that when abysmally stupid people began prattling about having found the remains of a crashed flying saucer, the military (un)geniuses went along with it, and even helped spread and embellish the lie. It was the Army Air Corps, becoming a separate branch of the military now known as the US Air Force, that concocted much of the rapidly-growing fairy tale, and when yet another birdbrain started yapping about alien bodies being discovered in the wreckage of the imaginary crashed saucer, the Air Force found it convenient to go along with the myth. Now the tale of crashed saucers and little gray men with big eyes has taken on a life of it's own amongst the gullible and the stupid and the greedy out to make a buck selling their fictions about the supposed incident.

The above is all true; the Air Force has admitted it, and it should be a lesson to thinking Americans: NEVER take tales of this nature at face value, especially when they emanate from the government. You do, and you'll find there's always slimeballs standing behind you with a packet of condoms in one hand and a jar of vaseline in the other, staring hard at your backside!

Probably nothing or someone spotted a secret aircraft belonging to the US. I do believe that we were working on radically different types of aircraft in that area, one may have crashed.
The people of Roswell made great use of that publicity to lure UFO seekers to come & spend money. It also made a great TV program, watched it every week! Didn't believe a word of it!

I don't think we will ever truly know. The government says no space men but do we believe them? If there is proof shown that it was a weather balloon will we believe it? I think most of us want to believe that it was a space craft and dead space men.

opinion?

Hi energy testing of Radar in the area caused a ship to crash land. The US government was actually able to salvage it.

The governement had been actively trying to bring one down and salvage it since at least 1942, see battle for LA propaganda for why.

The short and sweet of it?

Aliens from a different planet.

Don't you think it's silly to think in this huge galaxy we are all alone?
It also seems silly to me that folks would go so far as to disprove the idea that aliens have ever been to earth.

my ship crash landed, that was real stupid of me, after 65.4 light years of event less drive to crash on that stupid planet. I managed to bail out in time. changed my skin color to light brown, and am now living comfortably on my emergency rations, among all those funny creatures native to this planet, and waiting for the recovery ship, which is due 147.4 years from now
