My baby sister will be delivering our first nephew in July. She has asked that I be by her side every step of the way, and I am THRILLED! I want to make sure her pregnancy is as comfortable & memorable as I can, as she has Cystic Fibrosis, and was told she couldn't have children. Since this is her first, and possibly her last, I want to make sure it is everything she has dreamt it would be. My husband & I have made the choice not to have children, so I have no experience, and I was wondering if those of you whom have had children could give me some advice or pointers to help her now, and during the time that she brings that baby into this world. Any and all suggestions welcome.
Thank you in advance!!

I have helped bring 2 other babies into this world! As well as 3 of my own! I've been on both sides. To be a good labor coach, first be a good listener and observer. Pay attention to what is going on around you and try to remain calm for her. A little reassurance goes a long way! Help her count during contractions and with deep breathing prior to and during active labor. Since the birthing process can be unpredictable, the most important thing is just to be there!! Best wishes to you and your sister on the birth of a new baby!!

Just be there for her! I have CF as well, and I really look forward to the possibility of having a child myself. Let her know that you recognise how special this event is; being there emotionally is often the best you can do.

Go to the LaMaz classes with her (usually at the hospital). They will give you tips on how to handle specific situations.
