I need help to write a negative message to the phone company about charges that should not have been on last month’s bill. How can I do this? What can I include to make it effective?

I think the best way to write this letter would be to be as precise and detailed about the charges error. You should not be rude but explain to them why you think the charges were error or why you feel you were overpriced. But make sure you're explicit with words rather than being unclear. Tell them of past experience and if possible make a copy of your old bill and add it along with your letter as a prove. You can bring to their attention how disappointed you are of their service and let them know of your loyalty to them. By doing so, you will allow them the opportunity to deal with the matter efficiently (especially as a long time customer) and you won't appear as a disrespectful person.

All the complaint letters that I write start with

"I know that you are very concerned about customer satisfaction and the you will be able to sort out my problem with out too much difficulty. Maybe a mistake was made. Here is what happened. . ."

Butter them up before blasting them with what happened. Do not get uppity, because there must have been a mistake. Most companies are not purposefully cheating you !@!
