Yes. I asked a customer when her baby was due. She screamed at me, I"M NOT PREGNANT!!!" She never came back to shop with us anymore. Pretty sure she was offended.
Also, my ex-sister-in-law was at an amusement park and they wouldn't let her ride a ride, "because pregnant woman aren't allowed on that ride". She was extremely angry. I would have thought the incident would have helped her to want to loose weight. It didn't.

Its very offensive. I used to be a much heavier person than I am today. I was always asked when my baby was due so I layed it on the line. I would say "I am not pregnant, I'm just fat" That would shut them up real quick. I feel its not my place to make a comment on such issues. If its someone you know, then its completely up to them to tell you. Until they do, wait it out. Now that I am thin, and pregnant, nobody has had to put their foot in their mouth because it is pretty obvious.

When my boyfriend (now my fiancee) and I first started dating, someone asked if I was pregnant (FYI: I was 5'1" and 100 lbs, but my tummy always stuck out). I was more insulted that she thought I would jump into bed with someone I had just started dating than her thinking I was pregnant in general, actually.
On a related topic, a large woman my boss knew had been pregnant ran into him at the grocery store. He asked her how many months she was now since he hadn't seen her in a while..it turned out she had given birth SIX months ago!!!
It's insulting, but I wouldn't let it ruin my life. Some people are just curious but that doesn't mean they're mean!

I have been asked that twice before I was and I was pretty mad. I'll say though that it made me start a diet and loose weight so I guess it was a good thing! LOL. I still to this day will not ask someone if they are even if it is totally obvious because I do not want a blank stare as they say "pregnant? NO!"

I have seen others ask someone with a big tummy if they are pregnant and person got upset - so I never ask. I wait for it to come up in the conversation. If someone asked me that, I wouldn't be mad as I do look like I have a baby or cupboard full of food in there....

Oh my God, I went to my high school reunion and asked a girl when she was due. She wasn't pregnant. I felt so bad. The look on her face was horrible. She looked absolutely stricken. I will never forget that and how I must have made her feel. I was just trying to make conversation with her (and I couldn't even remember her name), and I made the worst social faux pas. I will never get over it, and I'm sure she will never forgive me.

I advised a pregnant-looking woman not to get in the hot tub, it would be bad for her baby. She said "I'm not pregnant!" It was mortifying and I've never made such a comment again.

I haven't experienced it firsthand, but I have witnessed it happening, and YES, it is offensive to the woman being asked.
