Be sure and change the water (cool not cold, and never soft water) every couple of days.
Rinse the vase. clip the stems at an angle under running water.
Use the packet of flower fresher (about a 1/2 pack) each water change.
Depending on the flower and the quality of the florist's supplier they should last a week or so.
If they last two weeks consider yourself lucky because when you really think about it- those flowers were already dead when you got them!

You should cut (under water) the ends of each flower every 2 to 3 days. Treat the fresh water with lemon juice and some sugar. About 1 tablespoon of each. Be sure the vase is clean and well rinsed.

Add a small amount of sugar and a drop of bleach to the vase
method is like the preservative you get from florist Also remove leaves that are under water as they cause rot & the cooler the room also will extend the life.

I know, I try to let everyone that I know not to give me cut flowers. I prefer a live plant. Buy some sprite and leave the top off, so that it loses its carbonation. Clean the vase, fill 1/2 with cool water, fill the rest with sprite. Give them a couple of asprin until you get the sprite prepared

I would have to say a fresh cut diagonally under cool water and then changing water every two days. Add an Aspirin every time you change the water.
