Do a online scan (see link below), AVG is a good virus program but it misses a lot of viruses.

Just because you computer takes a long time starting up does not mean you have a virus - when the last time you defrag or run scandisk ?

Also check for spyware. A typical antivirus application may not catch spyware applications.

Also how many programs do you have autorunning at bootup? Getting rid of these may cut your bootup time. Download http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/ProcessesAndThreads/Autoruns.mspx and see what is listed under Login.

Check to make sure your system is also showing the correct amount of memory. I have seen a pc boot slow because a memory chip was bad. After swaping it out the system booted normally.

I have spyware begone, it seems to keep my computer clean, and spyware, virus free and all cookies free. It does its thing when I turn on my computer in the morning and if there is any other danger it stops that from happening also. Besides its free for home users.
