If you're looking for suburbs, La Mesa is very pretty. It's by San Diego.

try San Louis obispo. Its in a beautiful area, lots of young people due the the university (Cal Poly) and it relatively affordable by California standards. On the down side its a bit isolated and the summers can be hot but you are just a quick 45 minutes form the ocean.

Napa. Don't go further upvalley because the prices rival SF. I'm rom a very small town, and I love Napa because it still has a small town feel, only with better amenities.

If your NOT RICH it will be tough. Hope you have great job skills. Santa Cruz California is great. University town.

live in brisbane ..

its just 30 minutes away from san francisco..a nice place..you can visit the city anytime or get away..
