Because they vibrate against each other in and out. If there were only one the handle would vibrate in sympathy and the energy would be quickly absorbed by your hand holding it or by touching a sound board. If there were 3 or more, then getting them all going would be exciting.

For creating resonance, the natural frequencies which objects vibrates with maximum amptitude. In other words, the tune forks vibrates most agressively with 2 prongs, and much frequent and greater than any human hands can produce, thus creating the sound we hear from tuning forks.

I think that it is to balance each other. Otherwise the handle would shake also. This way the handle is steady.
