I have a_NEC DV-5700A cd rom drive and have a sound card installed.

1. Unplug your computer from the wall/surge protector.
2. Open your computer case.
3. You can see how your other drive is hooked up, hook up the second one the same way.
4. Your ribbon cable should have 3 connectors, 1 on the end and 2 on the other end (one is plugged into your other drive)
5. Hook the second ribbon cable connector to your new CD-ROM.
6. Plug the power into your CD-ROM also (should be a white plug with 4 holes).
7. There is a small black plug (might be plugged into your 1st drive), plug it into your new drive. This is the plug for sound.
8. Your new drive is probably set for Cable Select, so no changes needed to the jumpers.
9. Put case back together and start computer.

Wait a few seconds for Windows to recognize the new drive and presto... New drive installed.

if you buy a CD-RW from a retail store such as compusa best buy etc.. will come with install instructions. also if you need help cuz you can't get it.. most places will charge a nominal fee to install it for you.
