First you must understand the word maintenance means "to maintain". Some women need a man to "maintain" her. Whether it is maintaining her emotions at a constant level or maintaining her need for things to enjoy...usually the things are bought to maintain her emotions at a steady level of contentment.

That said, women who are 'high maintenance' are actually mentally impaired because they can not maintain their own level of contentment without being co-dependent.

I think "high maintenance" has more to do with a woman's attitude than her taste in expensive things or a demand for them.
If a woman is demanding in any way, she is high maintenance. Actually, I think of high maintenance as the opposite of easy-going. For a high maintenance person, nothing is ever good enough. They usually are very particular, but the defining characteristic of being high maintenance is when it has to be your way and you won't accept anything else! Most people expect to encounter some change or something not going as planned or something not being to their liking and are able to deal with it. With a high maintenance person, they make a big fuss over it, and dont' let even minor things go.

A high maintenance woman is one with very high standards and expectations. She always looks good and dresses well because she puts lots of time and money into her appearance and lifestyle. She wears expensive clothing, jewelry, and make-up, the best hair.... She may or may not expect her partner to contribute to her image. She does not do cheap dates.

There is no such thing as a ' cheap' date with someone who is high maintenance. They want to be taken and seen at the ' best' places, they order the most expensive thing on the menu and just pick on it . They want every bauble they see and you are expected to buy it for them, no matter how much it costs. They only date the most attractive people and most of the time it's all about them and not about you or you as a couple. They expect you to cater to their every whim, be with them whenever they want . Think of yourself as like Paris Hilton's toy dog, in a high maintenance relationship you are but an accessory.

Run as fast as you can from that kind of relationship and find someone who is as interested in you as she /he is in her/himself.

Its like buying cars. Like a Mercedes is high maintenance, while a Toyota is more durable. The Mercedes will take you places that you really couldn't imagine, and fast. But in the end it will be the Toyota thats gonna last you 200 thousand miles. Ok so it wasn't a good comparison but hell its moderately funny.

It varies for every guy, but in general a high maintenance woman is someone who demands more maintenance than you're willing to give.

By my definition, high maintenance refers to a woman's attitude. Does she demand lots of attention? Are you constantly needing to reassure her about herself and your feelings for her? Is she needy?

The other, more obvious form of high maintenance is her appearance. Does it take her alot of time to get ready to go out? How many times does she change her clothes before she does?

In both instances, my suggestion is to stay clear. No matter how good she looks on your arm, she will wear you down.

Certainly. A high-maintenance woman can also be one who requires constant validation because she's very insecure, or one who you're constantly needing to calm down because she's half-insane. In short, you're looking at a huge EMOTIONAL investment in some women, and this definitely qualifies as high maintenance.

It goes without saying that I avoid women like this like the plague.

There are some genuine caring women out there, who don't expect your total servitude.

In this day and age everyone understands the high cost of dating and will share the costs.

It is one who,
Frequently has her differential greased.
Likes her joints lubed
Her crankcase flushed out.
Her engine tuned and sparkin right on time
Likes her torque converter wound tight
And, when she is really burnin, she'll have her high beems brite and smokes blowin out her rear end.
Now, that is high maintenance.
She'll stick out like a sore thumb.
