Does anyone know of any merchants in Toronto who accept prepaid Visa debit cards? I have approached over 15 merchants with no luck! All ring in my purchase, swipe the card and then ask for a PIN number which I do not have. Any suggestions would be helpful!

Tell the Merchant to run this as a credit card and you need to sign for your purchase. *Most US debit card don't work on interac. They should know this especially those close to the boarder. If this is a prepaid debit card make sure you activated it and register it online. The website should be on the back of your card.
Not all Visa/MC prepaid or giftcards come with a pin.
*Citibank and HSBC debit cards may have a interac symbol on them. They have banks in both countries.
Some US Visa/MC prepaid or giftcards don't work outside of the U.S. even for web purchases.

Actually, if you use your Visa card you will get the best exchange rate prevailing for that day though there may be a $2.00 or so foreign currency charge. For small purchases just go to any major bank ATM, like a TD or CIBC and withdraw cash on your debit card. You will also get the best rate there.

I lived in Toronto for a year and had alot of problems using my Visa debit card. They have to accept credit cards in order to use the Visa ones. Their systems don't recognize the Visa Debit..just Visa credit. You'll have to use them at larger stores...like Winners or Walmart, etc.

have you tried to do a CREDIT transaction?? It looks like it is trying to do a debit transation.
Actually your PIN sould be in all the paperwork you got with your gift card!!
