Everyone is different. Some people will have their own personal account and open a joint account for bills. Each partner contributes a percentage depending on how much they earn to the joint account , so that it is fair to both. That way each partner has spending money and the other partner doesn't get mad if they are spending money.

Other people just have a joint account, deposit all the money in that account and use it to pay bills. Unfortunately, people do get mad when they think one partner is spending all the money.

You need to ask your spouse how she wants to pay the bills and set up a budget for the bills.

It would be helpful to know where you are from in order to see where you cultural attitudes are........ just to see how you might feel about things. Yes you probably feel like you should be paying more as you are the man.

But american women have more of a culture of independance. It's not just a man paying for everything but more of a all in it together kind of thing. Thats a marriage, regardless of who makes what.

Determine the monthly bills for a start. Then you both equally pay half. Then what is left over is yours and hers seperatly. But eventually you should go further as a team. If she gets better health benefits you go on hers. If you have a better 401K she should pick up some bill so you can invest more in it. Its all about having a marriage, being together and planing for the future. Not a business transaction. You should also have a joint account that you both contribute to for backup. 6000 combined if it is even a month should mean that you should not be hurting at all.

Forget your preconcieved notions. It's not about who pays more it's about figuring out how to best use what you both make.. togther.

Though I will get slammed for it I will say that American women can see things more as a business transaction.
