If you're leaving for a week you're fine leaving them without food. Otherwise an automatic feeder will allow you to leave for longer periods without anyone's help. You can usually pick one up under $20

Stay far away from slow release foods, they usually release far too quickly and spoil the water.

Hope that helps

How long are you gone for? Goldfish are fine without food for a few days; they could manage okay for up to 4-7 days without food, most likely, at regular room temperature.

If you're going to be gone longer than that, you have a few options
- keep asking people. you're bound to find someone who is sticking around, offer to pay them if you have to.
- get an automatic feeder
- use feeding blocks - I HATE feeding blocks - fish don't like them and they are very, very messy. But if it's your only option...
- find somewhere cool to keep them. I don't know where you live, but goldfish are coldwater fish. they are frequently overwintered in ponds because they basically go dormant, so unless the water freezes over completely (preventing O2 / CO2 exchange) they can stay in that state for a while.
- bring them to a petstore, either to give away and get new ones when you come back, or maybe they will "board" your fish there.

it ought to remember upon what tropical fish you've, yet as a accepted rule, extra deaths come from overfeeding than underfeeding, and fish frequently do effective on their very personal for a week. I actually have not in any respect really witnessed a feeding block operating, so that you ought to look at the different solutions for that. One option should be to have someone attentive for your feeding routine are available once a week or so and gives you them somewhat nutrition. yet as I suggested, maximum persons will overfeed fish and then your water will be polluted. the computerized feeder should be your acceptable determination, even with the actuality that, I agree, yet make constructive it truly is it from a relied on producer. in case you look it up on-line, you could examine shopper comments of diverse computerized feeders, that you'll get one which isn't malfunction.

Buy some extended feeder tablets. These are slow releasing food tablets that slowly add food to the water over the course of a few days or a week etc. Depending on how long you will be gone , one that lasts a week may cover it or you can have someone stop in just once while your away and drop in another week long feeder tablet. Ours here usually come in a sea shell shape and work fairly well.
