We have two boys 9 and 11 and an infant, we are bringing G'ma along to help. What would be the best plan for our trip. We are leaving in May and the boys have never seen the ocean!

I agree with the first guy - split your time between the Orlando area for different attractions the family will love and Tampa for the beach and ocean.

Now, I'm confused by something the girl above said, "We spent 2 days at Disney World, a half day at Epcot, a half day at MGM and 2 days at Universal." This doesn't really make sense because EPCOT and the Disney-MGM Studios are two theme parks located with the Walt Disney World Resort (Disney World). There's also two other parks withing Walt Disney World - Disney's Animal Kingdom Park and the Magic Kingdom.

Anyway, I love Walt Disney World, personally, and therefore I very much dislike the Universal Studios theme parks - they can't even begin to compare with the Walt Disney World theme parks. There's hardly enough to do at the Universal Studios theme parks to keep one occupied for a day, but there's enough to keep one occupied for more than a week at the Walt Disney World theme parks.

If it were me bringing my children to Florida and to see the ocean for the first time I'd take them to Walt Disney World for four days, spend one day at each theme park, and then head over to Tampa and the ocean for the next couple days.

I've been to both the Orlando area and Tampa. Your family is going to have an incredible time! How wonderful, your children's first time seeing the gorgeous ocean!

Hope I could help! Have a fun, safe trip!

I've taken a vacation to Orlando with children: boys & girls of varying ages. Even a 1 year old, but no infants.

Almost everything you do will depend on G'ma's energy (since I don't know her age or how much activity she can handle).

We spent 2 days at Disney World, a half day at Epcot, a half day at MGM and 2 days at Universal.

Investigate the theme parks online, try to decide the things you and your family would like to do before you go. The parks are huge, so having a plan will make navigation around the parks easier.

If you want more variety there's always Sea World, and Disney's Animal Kingdom Park.

If you stay at a Disney Resort (fabulous prices, and so friendly), then you won't have to pay for transportation (or gas) to travel to the Disney Parks or other Disney-owned locations. Busses stop at each Resort and take guests to the location of your choice.

To go to the Universal Studios theme park, you will need to call a cab (which will arrive pretty quickly and the drivers are very friendly as well). You can even call & reserve a cab you will need later, and it will be there on time.

Remember to pace yourselves: there is so much to see and even more to do. You may want to check the Parks out online, and map out a course of action. Don't be too rigid with plans though, you have children with you who will likely want to see and ride everything. If you are flexible, everyone will enjoy themselves.

We spent about 5 hours at each Park in the a.m. (when energy is fresh & excitement is high), then later in the day, we returned to those parks that we wanted to experience more of (after going to our resort for a nap, or a swim, and lunch--if we skipped eating at the Park). Pleasure Island is okay for the children before 5 (I think, double-check with a desk clerk), and after that it becomes adults only.

If G'ma wants to look around and you two have plans, babysitting is available. Remember to call ahead. There will be a fee.

Unfortunately, Orlando is not near the ocean. Sorry. I mean the ocean is not in Orlando. But you can reach it. From Orlando you can travel for a while (by car?) to reach a destination near the ocean. My experience is limited in this area, because we didn't go to the beach. You can always call Disney at 407-W-Disney or AAA (if you have a membership, they won't answer questions without one) to get more info. Try online.

However....

If you are ever able to take another vacation and have the funds, try the Disney Cruise, which I recommend to everyone. Great activities for adults and children, and the grandmother can get a break, because the children's activities are structured to make sure a child is occupied with having fun for hours on end. All the children I've gone on a cruise with have a BLAST!!! They have 3, 4, 7 day and even longer cruises, you can check that out online too.

Everyone enjoys themselves so much they don't want to leave when it's time to go home. Not very pricey, and virtually all-inclusive: Your room, meals, snacks, loads of activities for adults and children alike. And a babysitter for the little one (for a fee). Children's activities are supervised. There is a theatre that features Disney stage productions (remember, children will like these too) & a movie theatre. Several dining rooms, a spa, and so much more. Some of the best service on the planet...the staff treats everyone very, VERY well. You get your money's worth, and then some.

And...you get the ocean. I watched the ocean day & night through the porthole in my stateroom. It was my first cruise, and the first time I had ever seen the ocean. Amazing!

I even spent the day in & out of the ocean when we docked at Disney's private Island, Castaway Cay (Kee). There are even supervised activities for the children on the island. Mom & Dad can get away for awhile. You can also experience the ocean at the other ports, but it depends on which cruise you take & the destinations that cruise includes.

If you decide to do this, don't forget the sunblock. I did, and stayed in the sun too long on Disney's island and sunburned.

Hope this helps. Have fun!
