1.7L & 2.2L Renault engines are interfernce engines which means valve to piston damage is likley. It all depends what stroke the engine was in. The best way to tell if there is damage is to take your vehicle into a reapir shop, have them run a leak down, this way you know forsure & they can give you a estimate on repairs.

All the valves will be bent and the head maybe damaged.
Will be exspensive.
