I have a full time job with the government, a second job as a waitress, and I attend night school. Even with my two jobs I barely make over $1000 a month. I am single, and live alone. I live in the cheapest apartment I can, which in my area is $700 a month, without electricity. How on Earth can I do this? Are there any government programs available out there to help people like me?

Roommates are a great suggestion, but I have always had terrible experiences with them. That is not an option.

Dont take this the wrong way, but you need to get a better job!
Gov jobs are notorious for being low-payers and you're right, you shouldnt have to scrape by just to live!

How are you only making $1000 a month if you're working a full time job? Are you making minimum wage? I worked as a waitress and working 2 days a week, 7 hours a shift (at a family diner) I made $1000 in tips a month! Not to count your full time job... if you're really only taking home $1000 a month you need to find a roommate, or better yet, a job that's going to pay more than the minimum wage!

Government programs for housing are not a longterm solution only because most are so overwhelmed by disabled and senior citizens and people with children that they do not serve singles. You really can't make ends meet with those numbers, but your jobs are clearly pretty low-paying gigs. For a full time job to give you only $250 a week is pretty sorry, but to add on top the waitressing job as well?

You have two jobs and only clear $1000 a month. You need to look for better paying jobs and then think of getting a roommate or moving into a house where someone has a room for rent.

You could get a Roommate and split the rent and Electric 50-50. Or you may have to move into a less desirable area or move into a rental and split the cost with the other renters.
If you were pregnant or had children you could possibly qualify for HUD or Welfare etc.

roommates, live with your parents. or figure out how to get a better job (bid on promotions with the government). It's tough.
You cannot live on your own with this situation. can you get grants for school or loans? It's impossible to live when you must spend 700 of 1000 on apartment.

I think that your best bet, because you are not afraid of work as you have shown, is to get better jobs. Deliver pizzas, throw boxes at UPS, do something besides what you are doing. You cannot eat and have a roof on that kind of salary... Best of luck to you

Hello,
I suggest you try going to your local housing office, and welfare office... they will be able to help find all areas that you could receive assistance.
