Sounds like you got scammed. You will probably have to pony up and buy windows. You could call MS and try to validate manually, but odds are, you aren't the only person using the license code that is on that install.

The previous owner may have used the code too many times . If the code came with the computer you bought there should be a number on screen asking to validate by phone . If you ring up and explain they should activate it for you . I may add more later possibly with a few codes if i can find them :) goodluck !

Sorry to hear that. The copy of XP Pro that is on your computer was already registered by the previous user/owner. You will have to buy your own copy of XP in 30 days or less.

I've seen this a hundred times. You were sold a PC with an invalid/pirated copy of XP. The only fix is to get a genuine copy (assuming of course you're not willing to illegally edit the registry to hack the security code).

the same thing happened to me,i bought a pc thinking the windows was a proper one,turned out it wasn't,i got in touch with microsoft, i bought one from them for £100,it has the validation keys,& support you might need,they were very helpful
