I can't think of any others with kinky hair in most of the population. What is the biological reason for this?

Relax, Dr Dave, I didn't say there was anything wrong with it. I'm just curious.

Dark and black skinned people are better suited to live in very hot sunny climates. As you move toward hotter sunny climates the skin color of indigenous people becomes darker. The cooling of the brain in these climates is essential to proper cognitive function. The kinky hair stands high off the head and catches the solar heat high above the scalp and keeps the brain cool. You can thank God or evolution as you see fit.

I have think curly hair, and I LIKE kinky hair - what's wrong with it - why is they have to be a reason to explain it. I hate it when people try to straighten out the kinks to look "white" - sickening. I'm white by the way.

I just appreciate all the varieties that mother nature has provided us with - I wish there were more!

Kinky hair was created due to genetics and evolutionary need - the thicker covering by kinky hair protected the skull cap better in environments where it was needed (Irishmen - explain why you got it - must had been the milk man! - just kiddin').

Try telling that to most any Irishman!! Red, curly (kinky in many) hair is very common there!

Natives of Papua-New Guinea have similar hair. Some Australian Aborigines do as well.
