At 18 I'm still such a crybaby when I'm in pain!

As a professional dancer I often experience painful injuries.
Yesterday I sprained my ankle and, even if I tried to contain myself as much as I could, after a while I burst into tears.

It was embarassing and it always makes me fell such a baby!
Last week my teacher had the same accident and she didn't shed one tear.

I had always though that, by growing, I would have been able to improve my reactions, but now I wonder if this can happen...

What do you think: is it true that crying is for kids only?
Can you still cry for bad physical pain?

Thanks for your answer

Oh believe me.. If it hurts, even the strongest person will cry! It is a natural response to pain!

Extreme pain makes anyone cry. The definition of 'extreme' varies with age. For a newborn, who has no concept whatsoever of *why* something hurts, any pain is extreme. For, say, a four-year-old, 'extreme' may include any pain that is very sudden and unepected, and something as minor as a scratch. By adulthood, one can usually take a greater deal of pain. Consider this: toe bones seem to be more prone to pain- compare the last time you stubbed a toe with the last time you accidentally banged any other body part with an equal amount of force. Then, consider that breaking bones hurts anyway. A broken toe is probably failry high on any list rating pains...

The last time it happened was back in July or early August shortly after severly spraining my ankle as to which its still not right but not as painfull.. There are several times that a migraine will make me cry, those are the times my boyfriend knows they are realy bad and tries to do all he can to make me sleep so they'll go away faster.. not sure if i cried when i had my kids because i have a high tolerance to pain .. but there was another time when I was about 22 I think and I had a severely abscessed tooth for quite a long time.. cried worse than my two toddlers at that point till the infection cleared up..

Even professional athletes cry when they have a bad injury. Not crying is unhealthy. Crying releases endorphins to help stop the pain. The real question is why does society make a natural reaction into something only a baby would do? If it was unnatural why would children do it automatically?

No - I am not a dancer, but still, yes, I cry with pain. I have low somewhat low tolerance for it, but it still takes a lot of pain for me to actually cry. I am several years older than you. I do not feel like a baby when I do cry. Sometimes at first it's the physical pain, and then later it is usually frustration having to do with the injury that makes me cry.

Of course people(all people) cry when they're in pain; However, dancing(like any professional sport) is NOT for people with a low pain threshold you're expected to suck it up and continue that old saying "the show must go on" has been around forever for a reason...

There are all sorts of pain levels --try having a baby--you learn to do what ya gotta do to get what you want...

Everybody is different. Personally, I am not a cry baby when it comes to pain. As an athlete I 've sprained ankles, had thousands of bruises, etc. BUT...if I am watching something on television which i find sad, per say: rape, domestic violence, etc. I'll certainly start crying. Again, it all depens on one's personality. By the way I'm 22.

I think everyone is different. I don't tend to cry over pain I know I have a high pain threshold. I know that continuous pain makes me cry, more out of frustration than the general pain. But I will cry when I am extremely tired.

Don't be embarrassed to cry, it is a normal human reaction.

you are not a baby you just have a low pain tollerance. Personally i haven't cried for and injury since i was at least 8 years old. but then i was able to take physical pain no problam. i was able to litteraly shove earings in my unpierced ears with no freezing nothing and did not cry. i also was depressed and slit my wrists, smashed my head on walls and other terrible things that hurt and i never cried from the physical pain. You are just a sensitive person and there is nothing wrong with that.

People may cry at all ages because of heavy physical pain.

Children cry most, even in cases of what we would consider to be a slight pain. Women cry a lot more than men, not only because of physical pain but also because of feelings of affection and rejection/dejection. American women in movies cry oftenmost dry - without tears.

Men don't cry so much so overtly because human development expects them to be fiercy. Then we may say that men oftenmost cry inside, "in their heart", and instead of tears they may show rageful reactions to physical pain.
