I liked 'kayakdw's' answer....I am happy to realize that the boot stomp on the cake finally makes some sense. The cake isn't being 'wasted'; it is just a unique child-like way of cutting the birthday cake with the clean boot instead of the traditional knife! :) **************************************... "TO A KID: What's more fun that smashing a birthday cake? Yes, it is a rarely heard of tradition that only a few lucky kids have ever had the opportunity to do. Parents take great care to make sure the new goulashes are dishwasher clean (and don't touch the floor beforehand), the B/D kid gets to smash the cake with one step, and the young guests get to enjoy the remains, most often with their bare hands. Great fun for kids in this age group, but older folks just don't get it. Source(s): Saw it a looong time ago. It turned into a mini food fight with pieces of the cake."
