One should first know what a soul is and what a spirit is? Many believe that these words mean something invisible and immortal that exists inside us. They think that at death this invisible part of a human leaves the body and lives on. Since this belief is so widespread, many are surprised to learn that it is not at all what the Bible teaches. What, then, is the soul, and what is the spirit, according to God’s Word? From the passage that you used, Gen 2:7, it clearly says that adam became a living soul. It does not say that adam was "given" a soul. It means then that Adam himself is a soul. In Romans 13:1, we read that every soul must be in subjection to higher powers or authority, clearly soul refers to people themselves, not to some invisible part of human. What about the spirit? Psalms 104:29 explains that if the spirit is taken away one expires, same sense with James 2:26 "a body w/o a spirit is dead." Clearly then spirit is a life force which God breath into Adam to become a living soul. The soul then is us ourselves, our body. Then the spirit is the one which makes live.

Christians "believe" a lot of things besides the virgin birth; such as spankin' the monkey is bad, that all of the world's great literature is useless, that other pleasures of the flesh are wrong and to be shunned, that we should spend a major part of our time just reading scripture.
