The short answer is it won't work on your laptop.

MacOS is designed only to run only on Apple Macintosh computers and Macintosh Laptops. It is designed around Apple's own hardware standards and won't run on anything else.

Therefore your best option is to buy Windows XP or Windows Vista to run on your Compaq laptop if it didn't come shipped either of these already installed.

Someone did succeed in taking a Dell Laptop with simialar hardware to a Mac Mini and reprogrramming the on board ROM to make MAC OS think it was running on a MAC. However withhout cludges like this from enthusiasts it won't run on an out of the box non Apple Laptop. There is also a difference between installing an OS and actually using it to run applications. E.g. To the bodge it installations have correct hardware support for Wi-Fi cards and power managerment? Also I'm not sure how you stand with licencing either as Apple only License OS X for use on their hardware.

Every computer says that but I have heard of countless people using MAC OS on their windows laptop. I find it kinda stupid because if you want os then you should just buy a mac. Not to mention you risk your computer crashing.
