If someone calls your cell from a private number is there anyway to find out the number they are calling from?

Create a voice mail box where you forward such calls as you see them on your cell. The voice mail box says "The party you have called does not accept caller id blocked calls, please leave your name and number and we will call you back":

There are voice mail boxes you can use on the Internet like this, but you can also do it with your telephone provider.

For a cell phone company to release the number it would take a court order and I can tell you that it is incredibly hard to get a judge to sign an order for that. If it is a harassing call, document it and then contact the police. You also have the option to have your cell phone number changed, and most companies will do it for free if you have cause.

Yes. We had a crank caller who kept calling our cell phone with a "private" number. Cingular (or whoever your wireless provider may be) wouldn't release the number to us until we filed a police report. Then we were given the number.

Well, if you are being a harassed, I know most cellular companies have a trace packet that they send you to fill out and you have to mail back to them and they do an investigation and find out what the number is. You would need to file a police report as well.
