You have so many choices and I see a lot of people have proposed the war, which I'm willing to bet a ton of students will chose as their topic. Here are some I like and they are not in any order. I think you will have no trouble finding resources for them. Roe vs, Wade, especially because the anniversary of the decision was a few weeks ago and you will be able to find a lot of current references. The Israeli and Palestinian conflict would be a good choice. Ive been reading on this subject and I think its really fascinating and also controversial. For a lighter topic I'd also recommend investigating Polygamy, where one man has several wives. This would be an interesting choice and the research will be fun. I have had a lot of experience with Indian gaming due to being a California tribal member and that would be another topic Id recommend investigating. Good Luck!.

I had a similar assignment and I researched affirmative action in America, there were tons of online as well as text resources and I went to a really small high school with almost no money so I bet that would work out for you. Just pick a stance on wether you agree with affirmative action or not and then go and find data that supports your view.

there are hundreds of controversial topics that you could write about. it's just a matter of finding one that interests you and that you know a little bit about.

here are some examples:
1. should abortion be legal?
2. should euthenasia be legal?
3. should the words "under God" be in the pledge of allegiance?
4. is sexual orientation determined at birth?
5. do electronic voting machines inprove the voting process?
6. should the u.s. have attacked Iraq?
7. should marijuana be a medical option?
8. should marijuana be legalized?
9. should same sex marriage be legalized?
10. Should video games be censored?
11. Do UFO's really exist?

The list goes on and on.... but hope this helps.

A lot of your classmates will probably do their report on "The war in Iraq". If you really want your report to stand out, do something that even your classmates can relate to.
Fuzzylolipop has the right idea with Walmart and the Food issue.
some more ideas would be:

The Greenhouse Effect and how it's affecting the world atmosphere.

Global Warming (watch AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH) Is it too late to fix it?

Donald Trump's lifestyle and why he may be going to hell.

The increase in Atheism and Agnosticism in America.

The decrease in the quality of Parenting. (Pro's and Cons of Discipline)

Fixing the over-population problem.(Overcrowded schools, traffic)

Prison overcrowding and it's effect on society. (releasing of prisoners because of overcrowding)

The (over)evolution of Television.

The subliminal force of advertising that causes over-buying, over-charging, Debt crisis, bad nutrition, hyper children, etc...

I could go on forever.
Good luck!

This momentous happening was in the 1900s, The Suffragettes, were a political group of women who fought for the right to be equal to men in society. They went on marches ,hunger strikes, they chained their selves to railings and one threw her self under the Kings Horse .The founders were Mrs Emiline Pankhurst and her daughters Chistabel and Sylvia. They fought for the right to vote.
