I agree that Freedom isn't free, so why don't we come up with a new word that is more accurate? Maybe we can call it peoplearedyinginIraqforyourunappreciateliberalassdom?

Whoever thought that up was a moron. Freedom is in fact free. Remember?

" ... endowed ... with certain ... inalienable rights. "

Seems to me the only one who thinks it isn't is somebody trying to be clever in enslaving you.

I think the word is fine. What we should change is our attitude about the ones fighting so we can continue having that freedom. All the people that sit on yahoo and talk about being to smart to fight a politicians war embarrass me because I know how many have fought in them. No freedom if not free but when someone else pays the price for you to remain free at least have enough sense to shut up.

Unlike the definition given to OXYMORON by Diplomaed Dumboes, this is what it really means: It is a contradiction only if the words are taken a certain way. For example, "new oldies" takes NEW as meaning "different." So your slogan only means that we have to pay a price for freedom, just like we do to be freed from a bad marriage. You're giving FREE the meaning of "without cost," which is different from what the FREE in FREEDOM means: "released from."

The word Freedom is quite appropriate and I enjoy mine
the statement is also appropriate -- our freedom IS being
paid for in blood, starting back at Concord and Lexington.

In britain it is now called 'Chargedom' - that's our thieving Government for you.

They are planning the Chargedom of the Road - a bit galling when we have paid for it a dozen times before.
