I understand that on Feb 14 2006, it was Alex Wyler who was hit by a car and it was Kate who saw it happen. But I'm really confused, will someone explain to me how she was writing to him in her time [ to his time] if he had died? better yet, could someone just explain the whole movie?

Okay, here it goes and try to keep up!....They are paralled in time except she is in the present and he is in the past, same date, just different years. He hadn't died yet because he is I think two years behind her, so when she saw the guy get hit by the car it still wouldn't happen to him for another two years. Weird I know. So when she figured out that it was him that was hit, it was two years from when it happened to her so it was going to happen to him(the one she is writing to). So in not crossing the street to meet her like he initially did in her time, he waiting two years like her note said and met her in her time at the Lake House. This movie is super weird I know, basically they are two years apart and she is communicating with the past him and he is communicating with the present her, although he does meet her several times in her past, but she doesn't really remember. Hope that helps.

I think it is kind of based on the idea that they are perfect for each other so the cosmos intervenes to allow it. So after he dies she takes time away from the hospital to spend the day at the lake and while she is there she checks to see if any mail has been left instead of being forwarded and they start to talk. She is in 2006, he is in 2004 (he hasn't died yet). But this is why he can't meet her in 2006 or 2007. He is dead there. When she meets his brother toward the end she is in 2008 where he has been dead 2 years and he is in 2006 where he is about to die. But fate steps in and allows them to change things.

Overall pretty weird, and it could never happen, but amazingly I still liked it.

hehe, I had the same problem as you when i first watched the movie, i think we should ask the director of the movie!
there's one thing just came to my mind and that is kate and Alex lived both in 2 times and the Alex in the past died but Kate could save the Alex in 2 years time, and writing to eachother is something that can't happen in the real world, it's just a movie ;) but afterall it was a great movie, it made me cry!!!!! :P

Yea, It was a bit of a mind bend, i found myself questioning the logistics of the parodox, and then i just gave up, enjoyed the movie and the coincidences of it, and let it ride. I really wouldn't put too much effort into worrying about the time crap. If you liked the movie try to get past the time warp thing.

Here is my understanding-because time has been paralled, meaning in one time he has died, and in another he has the chance to be saved, therefore she is able to change his fate -so that he is NOT hit by the car. Therefore, because she is able as is he to go back into time, they are able to change their fates. I hope this helps you. I liked the movie.

Haven't you seen the news reports where neurosurgeons have been inundated with new patients after thousands have tried to figure that whole thing out? Its like "the song that never ends." It just goes on and on my friend. Some people started singing it not knowing what it was and they'll continue singing it forever just because this is the song that never ends it just goes on and on my friend.
