My new computer's brand name is Hewlett Packard. However, when I surf the Internet, sometimes my computer "shuts down itself" when I didn't request for it to be shut down. My computer is set up to be an automatic shutdown which means that I don't have to turn the computer off. However it is very annoying to surf the Internet when the computer is going to turn itself off. Is there any way to prevent this from happening?

I have a HP laptop and have had this happen before, but not to normally. Maybe three times since I have had my computer (had it for a year). You may need to look at your settings and also make sure that you AC Power Adapter is working correctly, no bent cords or open plastic coating. Also make sure you have a reasonable amount of memory on your computer. If you are doing a lot, you may need to purchase some more ram or a new hardrive. Or it can be that your computer is simply overheating. Which is common. If it does it again, flip your computer over and place your hand of the pack and see if it is hot.

If it brings up a screen telling you that RPC service is shutting the computer down then you have a sasser virus.

To stop the shutdown

Click Start
Then Run
Type in shutdown -a (notice the space before -a)
Press enter

This should stop the shutdown and allow you to do a complete virus scan.

Go to the site below for a removal tool.

This can be a fairly serious issue. Of course, check for a consistent reliable power supply. That will do it of course.
Then, it sounds to me like, other than power management already mentioned, it is a hard drive issue. I would run a check disk first.
If you have XP/2000, then open a command prompt by going to the run command and type in "CMD" and enter.
At the command prompt type, "chkdsk /f" and enter
Then it will tell you it cant run check disk right now, but would you like to schedule checkdisk at next boot. Reply "y" and enter.
The /f after this check disk utility built into dos means to fix errors, which is precisely what you want to do.
Errors often get on a laptop, particularly when powering off at appropriate times.
