Hi Tinkerbell.... I have struggled with depression and mood swings for many years and just didn't realize how severe until my husband told me that I am ruining our marriage and our kids are so unhappy. So I went to see a doctor. He told me that there are many forms of depression, some long term and some short. He put me on a medication and I swear I am a complete different person now! I can't believe the difference. Can't you go see a doctor, tell him what's going on so that he can treat you? Maybe with something short term until you get adjusted. Depression is not something one can fight alone. This moved may have triggered it.

Dear friend. You are not alone in this world. Ten months is a lot of time to spend in depression. Fortunately you will survive and your depression will cease soon. There are two types of depression and about 8 different names or categories.

Let's find out what kind of depression you are suffering. First, if you began your change of activities, while you experienced a traumatic event, and I am not talking about loss of a loved one; but any trauma, breaking with boyfriend, gaining more than 15 pounds, failing an important exam, etc. etc. Then you must recognize that you are experiencing a reaction and possible failure to adapt. This is a very common type, and usually is associated to transient minor depression.

In the contrary, if there is no event that you could associate to the changes in behavior, it may be caused by predisposition, low serotonine levels, seasonal affective disorder, increased cortisol levels, endocrinological problems, anemia or other diseases, and/or a Major Depressive Episode.

Usually the MDE is characterize by: Decrease energy or deep sadness, associate to typical symptoms: loss of interest in pleasurable activities, weight gain, insomnia, psychomotor retardation, feelings of worthlessness, problems with thought, and in severe cases hallucinations, delusions and suicidal thoughts. Although the outcome of treatments may variate from individual to individual, the scientific community feels that an antidepressive medication, might alleviate, or cause a remission in symptoms quicker, than would psychotherapy alone.

The following are possible antidepressants: Wellbutrin XL, Celexa, Prozac, Lexapro, Pamelor, Doxepin, Sinequam, Cymbalta, Remeron, Effexor XR, Paxil, Zoloft and Tofranil.

These medications require a Rx (prescription) from an MD.

I would recommend you to begin psychotherapy, and let the professional know if you are willing to take medication. It is important to acknowledge that the antidepressive Rx may cause "suicidal thoughts or ideas in young adults and adolescents". This is an important side effect.

Hoping that you get better.

While I am not a healthcare professional, I know that if symptoms of depression last more than two weeks, you should seriously consider visiting a local doctor or specialist. Event though you do not want to make your family aware of your situation, I'm sure that they would be more concerned about your diminished well-being. Talk to your folks because you may be surprised to find that they may have experienced similar experiences in the past and will know the best way to aid you during this time. Moreover, the sooner that you begin treatment, whether or not involves talk therapy or medication, you will begin to feel better.

You need a counselor in person...also try these two books

Papolos and Papolos' Overcoming Depression
Copeland's The Depression Workbook

in conjunction with therapy and possibly medications you'll feel better....some traumas in life cause chemical imbalances requiring meds. I use the above with the client's I work with...they are filled with helpful information and will assist you in taking an active role in your recovery. Good luck

You can over come depression and fight it. It's just an illeness but it can be fought. The way I got rid of mine was I turend to the main physican himself God. I asked him to help me not be depressed because I am usually sitting here in the house and I can't drive so I'm lonely and my husband is out trying to get his ged and plus our house isn't what we want it to be. I've had to learn to apperciate the things i have and i sure do now. I still don't like this house and the way my life is now but I know that God has something better for me and I am just waiting for it. I've always been a loner all my life and struggled with depression. The thing that made me stop and seek God for help was not sleeping at night and one day I got a migrine and i don't usually get those I got fed up with it and turned to God and asked him for help. He's competly removed my depression and while I'm not happy with my life right now I'm thankful for this house and the people who love me and care about me and I'm no longer depressed. God is better then any anti-depression medicine and it's ok to get hooked on him and overdose on him because he's the good kind to overdose on. I just have to say that he's the best person to help you get over your depression.

Well, unlike a lot of people at least you know you're depressed and you know it isn't normal. I would say to go to some type of therapy and depending on why you're depressed (and if you know why) sometimes group therapy can help just to prove to you that you aren't dealing with certain things alone. I would go to a therapist before a doctor because they'll just load you with medication and therapist might give you some but it'll be based on more than just medical reasons.

Make an appointment to get counseling. Counselors are not only good support systems but they can help you find ways to cope with your depression and conflicts. In addition, they can point you to a physician or psychiatrist who can prescribe medications for your depression. Lots of people are afraid to take medications but I can tell you from personal experience that I would not be alive or functioning very well if I didn't take mine daily. I've been on them for years but I don't care because I feel so much better and have a better appreciation for life. Please don't try to do this by yourself because you won't be objective or compassionate towards yourself to be of any help.

Hello there.
Its it not wise my dear to hand over your life to a total stranger, seeing that you are a young girl, surely your trust could be earned, and the one who earns it has an opposing agenda that you were not aware ofMy depression was so intense that I saved more that year than i ever have in my life. Shunning friends, only work and home and sleep and repeat it all again. To overcome, I was fortunate to believe in the one who could truly help me, cure me and set my heart in the right place, and help me strengthen my mind. GOD.
Nothing MAKES you happy more than to know that you are loved, faithfully by someone who watches overe you and cares for you. it was a full year of depression, and no one could make me feel better, nor was my usual activities useful. I stopped working out, no friends and nothing to comfort me. But I knew thru some good counseling it was a turning point in my life, and all i had to do was HOLD ON.
MEDS are always available but they dont change the inner being, only help you to cope with life thru medical chemistry. I sufggest that you take the surefire path, which is begin to pray that is if you have faith, even if you dont ask that your faith is increased, then move forward with confidence that GOD is there for you. GOD will not fail you, so you need not find someone to tell all that you have, until you know the value of trust. Tell it all to HIM, and trust me. HE IS THERE LISTENING TO YOUR EVERY WORD.

Hi,
To overcome such a kind of depression you'll need to be more active as a person. Depression may happen to anyone who has no social relations. And to be more sociable, u need to have self-confidence,to be yourself, and to take it easy. I know it's esier said than done, but u need to make new friends, and try to adapt to the new environment around u ! I know u can do it :) !
