Where do you draw the line between need and neediness? And for those who are unsure, neediness is where you constantly want someone's attention and don't allow them time to themselves. Is it possible I have just answered my own question?

You just answered your question. Give the guy some breathing room. Then again, some guys like that. It depends on your guy. If he's mentioned the fact that you are being needy, then he doesn't like it, so then give him the breathing room. Some guys like being needed for everything, although it's not healthy for the relationship. Every person needs their own personal time and space. I hope I answered your self answered question.
