On the handout I got from the doctor today it said I could start giving my son some things like zwieback toast and biter biscuits. They even had crackers listed. How old was your child when you started these types of things?

I appreciate all of the answers so far, but what I am really looking for is an age. 6 months, 7 months, more?

i followed the directions on the package. the ones that said if they are crawling i gave when she was crawling. the zweiback toast i gave to her when she was about 6 1/2 months, the puffs around the same time, the biter biscuits when she was 10 months. she is now 1 and she has only 2 teeth at the bottom but i give her everything. she gums it to death and i just watch her to make sure she doesn't choke.

crackers are good but i gave her the toddler crackers before the saltines. both get slobbed to death but i mean they can choke on strained food, you just have to watch them.

My son is 9mths old and I started about 6-7mths. He already had his two bottom teeth. Just keep an eye on him because they can break the biscuits. I know my son does. The toast is a little harder. You can also give him the Gerber puffs ( I think that is what their called) They are little star shape flavors puffs that lieterally dissolve on babies mouth. I tried them. They also taste pretty good and they come in different flavors.

If I were you, I would start out on veggie and fruit puffs. They melt in baby's mouth and it'll help them transition to finger foods. I started my baby on puffs at 61/2 months old. They really need to be sitting on their own before giving them anything other than strained and pureed foods for fear of choking.

when he started getting his teeth about 5 months, but when you do give you baby something like that keep an eye on him because he may try to put it all in his mouth and get choked.
