I'm sick of americans....and their football game.

I'm an american ex-pat. Been away for so long, don't know how to relate to my "countrymen".

i guess i should be more clear on this...i'm also sick of the "we're the best in the world" attitude that takes precedence over any thought for anyone else on the planet.

I am forever amazed at the number of americans who spend time in the real world and become totally different people. When someone asks a question (here) that an american may take as derogitory, all the intelligent answers usually begin with, 'i'm an american ex-pat' or something similar. The American education system and cultural attidude seems to promote patriotism to the exclusion of common sense. So many sporting related questions on this site are interupted by americans saying how good american sport is, even if the question has nothing to do with it. Growing up in Australia, I have had access to a wide range of sports, including baseball and american football, and can't help but feel pity for those americans all over yahoo answers saying how bad soccer is (when the average individual skill level and fitness at the elite level i feel is higher than for american football (which requires, in most positions, more physical size and strength, nothing to be ashamed of, just different sporting requirements)), how cricket is a girl sport where they bowl at 60miles per hour and use massive bats (when a pace bowler can bowl as fast as a pitchers fast ball, look at the world records, and you couldn't play cricket with a baseball bat as you wouldn't be able to protect the stumps). They oh so often defend points with absolutely no idea what is being spoken about, just 'object A was made in america so it must be better, and your country is poor so you dont know anything' style arguments. Even if object A is a woodsaw, object B is penicillen, and the discussion is 'best way to treat infection. Patriotism is good, but brains are always better.

I don't know, it is just interesting how many americans change their views on things after seeing the real world. Even their view of 'snooty' europeans. There a too many countries in europe to group them all together, and it is unfair as antiamericanism is worldwide.

It is easy to see some of there argument, they are the global power at the moment, just look at Guantanamo Bay. If a country held americans for that long without charge, they would probably invade, but because the prisoners are from countries who can't apply real military pressure to America, they continue to be locked up, without charge for years. They often seem to think the world revolves around their country, because their country can do what it wants. But it can't. I mean, imagine America invading China. Scary stuff.

I don't know, you grew up there. What is it that puts that certain narrow-mindedness in the average person and how can it be fixed?

What does not liking American football has to do with being away for so long? These are two different statements. You are like a lot of other Americans who leave the country to go to service in other countries or just the love of travel and realized that you like living in another country better then living in the States.
There is nothing wrong with that.

Should have put football in inverted commas! Just inform them that footballs are spherical and not a sort of ellipsoid shape. We call them Rugby balls. Also remind them not to go into a sports pub in England and say 'I thought only women liked soccer?'. Find out the ratings the Superbowl had in England the other night on ITV and ask anyone in Britain if they know who played whom and tell them to get ready for a surge in proper football when old Becks gets there.

Don't say things like "I'm sick of americans....and their football game." And we will be just fine.

I think you're in a "crap mood." We have the "best" attitude because we have balls and are willing to fight and do the things that are right.
