The first problem is that they dont offer the GTO anymore, so if you get one, it wont be new.

I think that if I was hunting for a car based on performance, I would definately go for the GTO. The LSX engine series has a great deal of aftermarket support, and they respond well to performance parts. Pretty much any performance level that you would want to get to, could be reached just by flipping through a Jegs catalog. From basic things like power adders to aftermarket suspension setups, its out there.

The new Lexus has some gusto for an import performance car, and I think that they are nice looking cars, but from a performance standpoint, the Lexus doesnt have the stock capabilities, and the aftermarket is much smaller and more expensive.

Even though the GTO isn't offered for 2007, there are still quite a few 'new' ones out there.

I would (and did) choose the GTO, but I'm a GTO nut and wouldn't consider an import anyway. It's not a fair comparison either way... When the GTO came out, you had to double the price to get comparable performance from anyone. Road & Track did a comparo between the GTO and a Mercedes 'something or other, (I can't remember)'. They chose to get 2 GTOs for the price of the Mercedes, but it illustrates the different perceptions.
