Me and some buddies are looking into going to California this summer. I was curious as to where is the best vacation spot? I don't want to go where there would just be teen madness. We want to go somewhere that has a really nice, relaxing beach- but is still close to the nightlife: we are all 20-23 years old. We are looking for relaxing days and wild nights- so any suggestions? I thank you in advance!

San Diego is the place to be during summer for anyone 20-25. Tons of young people spend the summer there. Go to Pacific Beach, the area has tons of clubs and bars all along the main strip. Downtown SD is also close for good upscale trendy clubs and bars. You can also go to a Padres game downtown in their new stadium during the summer. Tons of people downtown during games. There are a ton of really nice, laid back beaches in La Jolla, the community just north of PB. Windansea beach in La Jolla is one of my favorite beaches, reminds me of beaches in Hawaii and it's not very crowded and it's usually locals and not tourists too; the locals are very friendly also.
Pacific Beach is the place to be for summer partying though. Booze in legal on the beach and there's usually big crowds partying at the beach in PB during summer, but most people are 21 and older and it's concentrated in one area. You can just go just north or south of the pier and it's a lot less crazy and very relaxing. Mission Beach has some really nice beaches that arent too crowded or hectic too, just south of PB. Tons of young people, 21-25, go to the beach during the day and hit up the bars at night in PB. Every night during the summer Garnett Ave in PB is full of people partying and bar hopping. There are tons of things to do in SD b/c it's a big city and you can always go to TJ for a day trip. Mission Bay also has tons of water sports; you can rent a jet ski or boat. La Jolla Cove has really good snorkeling.

The weather is perfect during summer, 75-85 during the day and 68-72 at night. It doesnt rain during summer either and it's not that humid. The water is usally in the 70's and it's the warmest water you can find on the west coast.

There's no other place in CA like Pacific Beach, if you go there you'll have the best summer

I'm a California girl myself, so I suggest going to Southern California. Personally, I prefer San Diego over L.A. San Diego's night life is pretty awesome. To be specific, The Gas Lamp District/Quarter has tons of things to do after dark. If L.A. is more your style, there's PLENTY of things to do there. I added some links so you could browse through the sites and get an idea of what to look forward to. You'll have so much fun this summer!

If you looking more for cultural type events, I would visit San Francisco and Berkeley in the North California area. For what you're looking for, I would suggest Southern California. I hear Malibu is very nice.
