Why is it that most people put the Caps Lock on, type a single letter in capitals and then take the Caps Lock off? Why can they not just use the Shift key? Is it really that hard?

It's because writing is a lost art. It is the one result of the computing age that I hate, the laziness that "e-text" has encouraged.

But all lower-case is not the worst. The idiots who use "text message" typing ("txt msg" junk) and "hacker" typing ("hAck3R") nonsense deserve repeated smacks over the head with an MFM hard drive.

Until the _hard drive_ breaks, not their heads.

... I use the shift key... I only use Caps if I'm typing a whole word or two, and sometimes not even then. Some people are just lazy. Like the ones who don't use any capitalization at all. Annoying.

Anyone else find it interesting that on a Mac, the words "caps lock" on the key... aren't in Caps?

I use the shift key. People that know how to type use it all the time. I can't remember the last time I used the Caps Lock. It's a wasted button to me. They could use that for something more useful like fast access to e-mail, or web browser ... laptop friendly buttons.

I use the shift key all the time! I find Caps Lock very annoying and wish there were no such key!

I never realized that's what most people are doing. Maybe they have too much time on their hands and need to hit an extra key with the beginning of each sentence.

Most people don't behave this way. Your statistical sample is limited to what you have observed. Look around, and you'll see people that know how to type are everywhere.
