I had a baby Dec. 22, 2006. I started exercising five weeks later. I was doing situp and crunches mostly. I have noticed that I have never really stopped bleeding, yes it has slowed but never really completely stopped.
When I do my crunches and situps I notice I start having soreness and stiffness in my pelvic area again and my bleeding picks up a bit. I really don't know when is the appropriate time to start doing exercise like that.
I have already been for my post pardum appointment, at 4 wks. I didn't ask my doc then because I wasn't exercising and wasn't thinking on it. He did give me a clean bill of health but we didn't talk about exercise.
Does anyone know a round about good time after giving birth to start doing things like crunches and situps?

I bumped into this Q and not really qualified to poke my nose in here, but I think sit ups should be considered a big no no,crunches yes if done in moderation.Sit ups are very abnormal .There is so much stuff you can do for your abbys .

I just did a web search of exercising after baby~on the two sites that I read, they recommended starting off by taking short walks. These two sites didn't say much about sit-ups & nothing about crunches, but they did recommend waiting untill your six month post partum check-up. If you're not going for a six week check-up, call your doctor & ask him/her about it.
Congratulations on the new member of your family!!
