take traveler's checks. usually the hotel will cash your traveler's checks for pesos. and if your traveler's checks ever get stolen they will replace them.

I was in Cancun last summer, and my best advice would be to take alot of American Dollars. We are Canadian, and relied on currency exchanges in Mexico which were VERY expensive. We lost alot of our money that way. Also, everywhere you go, US dollars were the number one currency, you get better deals when bartering with merchants, everyone loves getting tipped in US and it's just worth more to them.
Cancun is very tourist orientated, there is lots of malls just like here, so you can always take out cash at a debit machine, its usually not that expensive either, try not to do it alot, but I think my bank charged me only a few dollars canadian to take out a few hundred dollars.
Good luck!

They take the mighty dollar in Mexico. The exchange rate is about 10 pesos equals $1.10

Be very careful about using a debit / checkcard / credit card. I'd recommend getting a disposable visa or mastercard just for the trip. Ask at your bank about them. That way, if it is stolen or lost you can report it and no one has acess to your bank info. And reporting stolen cash isn't ever an option, so take a little cash and put the rest of your money on a reloadable / disposable card. Good luck and have fun on your trip.

Just got back last week. If your staying @ an all-inclusive, they should have currency exchange @ the front desk. If you go to Playa del Carmen, the further down 5th street you walk, the prices will be lower, barter for stuff, it'll work! Have a great time! The weather was in the high 80's!

You should bring both Peso's and Dollars. Some places only takes Peso's but when you go to the lil shops they will negotiate prices for you in Dollars. Always remember if you walk away they will get cheaper and cheaper on this if you want what they are selling. lol Also,
1.00 USD United States Dollars = 10.9284 MXN Mexico Pesos
But if you go down with Dollars you can always take your cash card with you and take peso's outta the cash machines! Good Luck! Enjoy Cancun- It was SOO hot when i was there!

Take your US dollars...There are many little kiosks for changing money, all over the place, it is a fair rate of exchange.

Do not change money at the airport as it is a rip-off
