Braxton hicks are just minor contractions preparing your body for the labor. The actual contractions happen when the baby is being ready to be born. Braxton hicks happen throughout the pregnancy and they are a little bit painful but go away after a few seconds. If you are constantly feeling contractions and they last for a few minutes at a time, say 10 to 15 , minutes apart then THOSE are the labor contractions. I've had 2 children, the most recent being 7 months ago and it's happened that way with both.

A Braxton Hicks is a contraction- a "practice" contraction. A "real" contraction is one that actually starts doing the job of dialating/ thinning the cervix and pushing the baby out. A woman can have contractions all day but they won't do anything if the cervix is not "ripe" to open. I didn't feel any BH contractions until recently- in my ninth month- but a lot of women get them throughout the third trimeester.

Braxton hicks can come through out pregnancy...they are light and easy, not painful. They come and go and are not regular.

Contractions are strong and intense. They usually come at reg intervals.
