Someone once told me it was being tied down whilst a goat licked your feet. Anybody got anything better?

The History Channel has a piece on Saddam Hussein's torture of the Kurds running today. It goes well beyond goats. Don't watch it if you're a sad person, because the wholesale massacre of entire villages with homemade mustard gas and blocking their escape, leaving them with oozing sores that will never heal and scalded lungs that can't be helped probably reaches my limit of comprehension.

Keel hauling was quite nasty.
Wooden ships tend to pick up all kinds of sea life that enjoy living on them, mollusc's, shells all kinds of razor sharp stuff would attach itself to the keel. After while this would affect the speed that the ship could achieve, so periodically the ships bottom would be 'cleaned' by running a rope underneath it with something abrasive to clean all this shell life off. A sawing motion was used on the rope.
As a punishment some captains would use an offender, attach them to two ropes, and literally scrape them along the bottom of the razor sharp ship, If you didn't drown, you would be torn to shreds.
Not nice.

The sentence for treason in the 1500 and 1600's in this country was to be hung, drawn and quartered.
You would be stripped naked and hung by your neck in front of a huge crowd until you were almost dead and then taken down and revived. Then you would be stood up and your genitals would be cut off and thrown into a fire in front of your eyes.
Next, your stomach would be slit open and your intestines removed and also thrown into the fire.
Finally, (yes, you'd still be conscious) you'd have your arms and legs tied to four horses (one limb each) and they would be walked slowly forward and your limbs would be torn from your body. Your head would be cut off with a butcher knife and stuck on a spike on the city walls to deter anyone else who might think about trying to overthrow the king or queen.

I once read that South Sea pirates would cut a small incision in a man's stomach pull out a section of gut, thread through a small stick, tie his hands and feet and trail him in the sea behind the junk whilst his intestines gradually unravelled through the incision until there was 30ft in the water and he would still be alive

there were a number of gruseome devices during the spanish inquisition. one of the most horrific was called the "pear". it involved inserting a mechanism that was pear-shaped into the orifice of the female genital region. then with a turn of a crank, the machine would literally grind the inside. the masculine version of this dispicable act came in the form of a male being tied and naked, levitated, and then violently lowered with great speed onto a sharp metal protrusion through the buttocks region.

Chinese water torture: Tied down with your head in a clamp while you're on your back, and a large jar with a tiny hole in it dripping one drop after drop on your forehead. As mellow and bloodless as it may seem, it can lead one to madness from the pain very quickly.
The best part is that you can try it at home!

In the middle ages in England they would latch you down to a table. Then, they would put a funnel in your mouth and slowly fill your stomach with water. Not suprisingly, your stomach can only hold so much water, and because of the technique they used the person being tortured couldn't throw up or anything. Eventually their stomach filled with so much water, it would burst and kill them slowly as their stomach acids ate their organs.
Brutal.

I can't remember what its called now but being tied to four horses so that each of ur hands and feet are tied to a horse each and the horses made to run until ur cut into four pieces OUCH!!
